Self-defense course

🛡 Hufak wants to offer you a self-defense course!

We’re starting with a pilot session to see how well this offer is received by students.

We’re already planning more sessions to give more people the opportunity to participate.

⏰ Time: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

👤 Instructor: Nevena Lukić-Berger

European Champion, Military World Champion, Olympic participant in Taekwondo, one of the first women in the Austrian military sports program, recipient of the Golden Decoration of Honor of the Republic of Austria. Actress and coach for self-defense, Taekwondo, and acting/improvisation.

What to expect:

This open introductory session will give you an insight into various self-defense techniques – from body awareness and sensitivity exercises to de-escalation, reaction to distance, and direct self-protection.

You’ll learn how to dodge, block attacks, form a proper fist, and try out kicking techniques on pads.

Respectful interaction and fun are guaranteed!

First come, first serve – with the following social priority:

  1. FLINTA (Women, Lesbians, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender individuals)
  2. Queer people (e.g. LGBTQIA+)
  3. BIPoC (People who experience racism)

Wear comfortable clothes – yoga mats and training materials will be provided.

German Courses

General information

  • Registration will be open on Monday, 3 March 2025,
    from 9 am
    here.
    The last day to apply is Monday, 10 March 2025.
  • Any applications before that date and time won’t be accepted.
  • The spots are limited and will be given out on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Only to students submitting complete applications (including required info/documents mentioned above).
  • Be aware that the spots are only reserved for matriculated students of the angewandte. Students from other universities won’t be taken into consideration.

    Please remember that incomplete applications will be put on the waiting list.

     

    Placement tests

    Students are advised to conduct an online placement test on the website of the eloquent in advance: https://www.eloquent.co.at/index.php?page=einstufungstest-en

     

    Codes

    If you manage to get a spot, you will receive a confirmation from us, including instructions for the steps to follow. In case you receive a rejection mail, you can ask to be put on the waiting list.

     

    Course Types

    Course Types: A1, A2 B1 and B2 levels (only one option is covered).

  • Duration: 8 weeks

  • Classes will be held twice a week – 1.5 hours each.

  • You can choose between the following courses:

    • A1 – absolute beginners: Monday & Wednesday, 5:00 – 6:30pm

    • A1 – basic: Tuesday & Thursday, 4:00 – 5:30pm

    • A2 – elementary: Tuesday & Thursday, 5:00 – 6:30pm

    • B1 – basic (A2+): Monday & Wednesday, 5 – 6:30pm

    • B1 – intermediate: Tuesday & Thursday, 6:00 – 7:30pm

    • B2 – upper intermediate: Monday & Wednesday, 3:00 – 6:30pm


To consider:

  • The German courses are very popular, and we advise you to book your spot as soon as registration is open!
    In case you don’t manage to get a free spot, you can still get a 10% discount on all courses offered.
  • The language courses are offered free of charge by the HUFAK Student Union. Course books and other materials (approximately 35€ one-time fee) must be covered by the participants. If you miss more than 20% of sessions without a valid excuse, you must pay a €200 fine.
  • If you don’t plan to attend at least 50% of your course sessions, there is a chance that you might not be considered for another semester course in the future.
    Please note that your spot will be fully covered by Hufak; if you cannot attend, please give the next student in line a chance. 🙂
  • Please consider that during the course, you will be asked to present tests and do homework.
  • You will need to cover the costs for the coursebook of approx. 30 EUR yourself, to be paid at the online registration.About the German course institute

JOB OPENING: ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT (M/W/D), Hufak

The Students’ Union  at the University of Applied Arts Vienna is looking for administrative support (m/f/d, 20 hours per week) starting in September

Employment requirement:

– Matura
– excellent written and spoken German and English skills

Responsibilities:

– Appointment coordination (shared calendar)
– Budget management
– Use and maintenance of internal databases
– Meeting organization and taking minutes
– Event management incl. mailings
– Researching legal materials
– Website maintenance as well as inventory and ordering

These are your prospects for the future:

– A varied job in an interesting university environment
– You can draw on the knowledge of a well-established team

Qualifications:

– High social and organizational skills
– Reliability and accuracy
– Very good knowledge of common IT programs (MS Office inApple/MAC)
– Experience in dealing with databases

An advantage:

– Technical know-how
– Possibly knowledge of Photoshop or InDesign or a talent for graphic design
– Experience with social media
– Independence, flexibility, willingness to work closely in a team
– Enthusiasm for a varied field of work

Working hours are Monday to Friday. Flexible working hours (home office) during lecture-free periods.
The minimum monthly salary for this position is currently € 1,190.10 gross (14x per year).
Due to the required professional experience, this amount may be increased accordingly by taking into account job-specific previous experience in accordance with the collective agreement (contract staff v § 71 VBG).

HUFAK HAPPEN

Student discounts at the mensa are starting again with the new providers! As a student of Angewandte, you are eligible to get a 2€ reduction on the the student menu, including wholefoods, dietary meals and daily specials.

You can get a sticker for your student ID at the HUFAK secretary office (ground floor OKP, next to the HUFAK office), after signing a paper that you are in need of the discount – based on your own assessment. The office is open Mon-Fri 10AM-1PM. You will have to show your student ID with the sticker at the canteen.

The daily price the student menu may not exceed Eur 5.50, the daily price of other student menus to which a discount is to be applied may not exceed only Eur 6.50. The discount is only granted during the lecture period.
