We have a social assistance cooperation with the Austrian Student Union (ÖH), which offers all students who are in particular financial need the opportunity to receive a one-off grant every 12 months. Students with children are given preferential treatment.
The emergency situation may have arisen, for example, due to: suddenly increased housing costs, study costs, expenses for the care and support of one’s own children, expenses for medical/psychological/

Funding is up to €1,500. Please note that the processing time is currently around 3 months.
Students who are eligible for support from the ÖH social fund must:
- do not receive any study grant (or not the full amount),
- have successfully completed 16 ECTS or 8 SWS from courses and examinations in the last year of study (*no recognition). Exception: 1st semester.
- have not exceeded twice the minimum period of study (example: Bachelor’s degree lasts 6 semesters – you can apply for the ÖH social fund up to and including 12 semesters)
Furthermore, the applicant must submit the following documents, among others:
- Copy of an identity document with photograph,
- Income confirmations from the applicant and spouse or registered partner,
- Confirmation of support from other bodies or persons,
- Confirmation of receipt of maintenance payments,
- if an account exists, current account statements for the last three months of the applicant and spouse or registered partner,
- Confirmations of expenses incurred for accommodation, basic telephone and radio charges, household insurance, health insurance and for necessary travel to and from the place of study, etc.
- Registration form including all family members living in the household,
- Confirmation of continuation as well as a record sheet for the current semester and a confirmation of academic success,
- if necessary, proof of disability (disability card, medical certificate).
To submit an application, fill out the application form ( download below ) and enclose the necessary documents (in copies). If everything is complete, processing can be faster. Incomplete applications must be rejected.
