Getting in & around Angewandte
What/where are PSK/GCP, VZA7, OKP (Ferstel and Schwanzer wing)?
How do I get evening/weekend access to the university buildings?
- For all students: 24h access to OKP+VZA7 building: pick up white key card from OKP Portier (just tell them you want to pick up the card and your name)
- If your study programme is based in PSK there is a separate dongle system, check with your department what their policy is.
How do I get student discounts?
You don’t have to collect any of the following, but get them if you need/want:
- old school orange paper student ID that gives you reduced entry (as long as you’re also under 27) at cinemas etc:
- bring a passport photo to Studienabteilung/Info Desk in OKP (Ferstel wing) to collect it
- IAA (International Association of Art) membership card that gives you free/reduced entry to many museums (Austria + international) for two years:
- many departments order them for all students in bulk
- you can also buy one directly from IG Bildende Kunst for the full price

If you have any questions or problems, feel free to approach any professor, teacher or fellow student.

How is the student representation organised?
- the university-level student organisation is called Hufak, they have different departments that you can contact for support and advice: https://hufak.net
- Hufak is just the Angewandte part of the Austria-wide student union ÖH, which runs their own social+legal advice services: https://www.oeh.ac.at

Equipment & workshops
Where can I borrow equipment?
There is no central equipment borrowing place. But your department has one that is specifically available for students from your class.
What workshops are there at Angewandte?
In terms of access you can distinguish three types of workshops at Angewandte:
- central workshops
- internal workshops of other departments

How can I start using the central workshops?
Two ways:
- if you have a specific project you want to realise, approach the workshop directly. Usually you first go there to have a ‘Vorbesprechung’ to discuss your project and make an appointment for coming back and actually realising the project.
- workshops you need to e-mail in advance for a Vorbesprechung:
- wood workshop (including robotics lab)
- coding lab
- workshops you can walk in whenever they’re open and see if they have time/space to help you:
- metal
- book+paper
- if you just want to learn more about a material or workshop but have no particular project, take one of the courses held at that workshop. These are often booked out early, so try to register as soon as the course opens:
- list of all classes held by any of the central workshops
- all ECTS from central workshop courses count towards 2nd Abschnitt study subject Fertigungstechniken für Ausstellungen – Projektarbeiten
Can I use the workshops of other departments?
With few exceptions, the in-house workshops of other departments can’t be used by outside students, except as part of a course or (unofficially) if you know students from that department who let you in.
Workshops from most to least accessible, plus what equipment they offer (please update/add):
- Institute of Design Computerstudio
- rendering computers
- Lehramt’s Studio Praxistest (electronics/digital fabrication workshop): e-mail for an appointment, they’re happy to help if they’ve got the time/capacity
- laser cutters (~A3 cutting area)
- foil stencil cutting machine
- great electronics know-how
- small filament 3D printer (much smaller than the DK one)
- ID plastic welding workshop: take Ursula Klein’s course
- Lehramt wood workshop: take Philipp Reinsberg’s courses
- CNC machine Hammer HNC 47.82-4
- TransArts smol metal (brass+copper) workshop: take Judith Fegerl’s course
- ID also has a big laser cutter, but need to know one of their students
- Architecture has great equipment and doesn’t let anyone else use it
